Unequally Yoked In The Church

two-oxenIs there anyone you know unequally yoked in the church?

Are their people in church that are unbelievers?

Over the years this one verse concerning being unequally yoked has been used primarily for relationships outside the church and marriage.

But when God speaks oftentimes to us collectively in the Bible it is about His relationship with the church.

The scripture which speaks about being unequally yoked can be found in 2 Corinthians 6:14. I want to share this verse along with verses 15-18 with you.

14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?15 And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.18 And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

At a time of fasting and seeking the Lord, I find it comforting to know that He provides me with sound doctrine and truth about who He is and what His will is concerning my life walk with Him.

Looking, acting and speaking as if I am holier than someone else will not give me a free pass with God if my heart is not right.

I am finding through my daily walk with God how He is revealing to me that there are some who confess Christ but who are unequally yoked in the church and are carnal believers.

The actions for power and serving flesh (man) rather than God will hinder the work of the Lord from doing great things within the church and in the lives of His followers.

First of all, if a church, (which I am a part of) is limited in its’ spiritual growth it is because we are often refusing to be obedient to God first.

Second, if a church is led by the flesh the Spirit will have no part of it. For the Word of God tells us in John 4: 24, God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Third, are their unbelievers in the church? Yes. Some would classify many to be carnal believers or wolves in sheep clothing.Jesus spoke about the character of those who say that we have done miraculous things in Christ name but read what his response will be concerning this prideful mindset in Matthew 7:21.

21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

One thing that we as followers of Christ should be constantly doing is seeking His face and asking for Godly wisdom, understanding and discernment of good and evil.

We need to be praying all the time seeking the Will of God. Not for ourselves but for Him alone.

If then, if we truly recognize that we are indeed unequally yoked in the church, then we must immediately, ask Jesus to forgive us and truly repent. It’s that simple but never impossible to change our lives from being unequally yoked and a carnal unbeliever to being a committed follower of Christ our Savior.

Take the time today to have an intimate relationship with God the Father.
