Contention among Christians

I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. John 17:15-18

Bishop TD Jakes Comments on Supreme Court Same Sex Marriage Ruling

In the past few days, heated conversations and debates have been swirling about the recent Supreme Court decision in sanctioning their approval for same-sex marriage.

There seems to be contention among Christians taking place in the body of Christ, especially, among those who have labeled themselves either Liberal or Conservative Christians.

Yet, we need to stop and remember that the Supreme Court is but mortal beings, as we all are.

With each state deciding whether they will abide or deny this recent decision, I have been quite content with the peace of mind that God has placed within me.

The decision by the court in no way has stopped me from being obedient to the Word of God.

This anger within the body of Christ, serves no purpose.

And negative energy spent on bashing and striking discord of ugly words against those who deny the sovereign God should not in any way be part of a Christian talk or walk in this world.

Sinners do what sinners are born to do.

We should live our life by the example of Jesus Christ and not out of the willful nature of man.

Last night, a family member remarked that after the Supreme Court’s decision, America was now in the course of going in the way of destruction.

As I listened to his words, he began to read scripture to us, describing the penalties for ignoring God’s divine will and attempting to change the order of His creation.

Now, this family member is not an older person. Nor, can he be described as a religious zealot.

What this young man is showing us is that his life is not determined by the laws of man but by the Word of God.

Seemingly, I can address the fact that there are some in the body of Christ who have family members who have chosen to live a LBGT lifestyle. I dare say that they have totally abandoned their loved ones.

If anything, I believe, that while a number of Christians who do not agree with the Supreme Court ruling, we will also not be mean-spirited towards those in the LBGT communities but we also will not be passive in our belief to follow the Word of God.

When you are loved by God, you are able also to show this love in His way and not our own.

I have heard people use the excuse that our “society is changing” and therefore we must keep up with the times.

But the real truth of this statement is this.

Sinners do what sinners love to do.

But with Christ, all things can change!
