There are some adults in America who would like to ignore the fact that we are failing our young.
As we watched the devastating aftermath of another mass shooting in another American school, no one can deny that changes have to be made in how we treat mass murders in this country.
Too many times have we dropped the ball and pointed our fingers in the direction to others rather than looking at ourselves as adults and ask the question, “Are our young worth saving?”
And the answer to the question is yes.
Our young are not responsible for allowing elected officials to pass gun legislature that go against their well-being, safety and life.
In the past when school shootings have occurred, politicians go back to business as usual ignoring the elephant in the room. As a matter of fact, the elephant disappears entirely from their sight.
But, this recent mass shooting in Parkland , Florida has ignited a different kind of fire that has been lit by the young and the flames are not going to be extinguished as in the past.
The voices of young people who have been personally affected by gun violence in Parkland, Florida are taking action and placing it on the doorsteps of every elected official (local, state and national) as well as to, President Trump, who are beholden to the National Rifle Association (NRA).
Those in the position to make drastic changes to gun laws need to listen as these young people are telling adults that using the Second Amendment as an excuse, is over with.
The young will soon be of voting age and what they are experiencing from tone-deaf adults who keep voting back into office the likes of NRA lackeys is that their power will soon be taken away from them.
Lastly, what we are learning from these courageous young voices is for adults to get out of their way and let them have their day to do what adults refuse to do.
Stand up to the NRA.
