Fight Against the Flu

by Kat L. Robertson

Understanding that we are organic beings, it is important to look at our health holistically.  Since this is January and we are in the thrust of flu season, it’s essential that we start here. With cold weather looming ahead for several months, how do we fight off the onslaught of colds and flues while keeping our resistance strong?

A combination of vitamin therapy, a healthy supportive diet and rest can go a long way in preventing a full-fledged viral attack. At the first sign of a cold, i.e. headachy, sore throat, stuffy nose and fatigue, before rushing to the drug store for over the counter medications, you might want to consider a few healthy alternatives.

Echinacea (considered nature’s natural antibiotic) with Goldenseal Root in either capsule or as a liquid with a dropper, is an excellent way to combat these symptoms. Taken with zinc and Vitamin C, several times a day can make a big difference in fighting off a cold before it has time to ware down your resistance.  Continue to take the combination until the symptoms begin to wane; then you can begin reducing the number of vitamins along with the frequency with which you are taking them. When you are back to yourself again, stop taking them all together. The body can build up a tolerance; they will not be as effective the next time. This regimen is most effective when you catch the cold at the very beginning.

Taking a teaspoon full of honey and cinnamon will help sooth a sore throat and subdue coughing, while also boosting your immune system.

While fighting to regain your health, it is important that you provide your body the proper fuel in the way of immune building food. Vegetables rich in Vitamin C such as green and red cabbage; onions, parsley, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, green cauliflower, hot chili peppers, white and sweet potatoes, spinach, okra, sweet red peppers and tomatoes, are all wonderful to prepare in salads, soups or roast them.  If you are not up for anything heavy, try making just a broth with onions, garlic and parsley. Add mushrooms for additional flavor in addition to the added benefit of Vitamins D, B-1, B-2, B-3, B-6, B-12, C and folate.

Rest is a crucial component in the regimen to build up your immune system and ward off a relapse, especially as your health starts to improve. This is probably the most challenging to incorporate into busy schedules but so necessary. We tend to want to jump right back into our routines as we begin to feel better. But take it easy a little while longer until you are strong, your energy is back up again and you are ready to take on your world!

Remember, we are spiritual as well as physical beings. Just as we need to feed our physical bodies with the nutrients necessary to promote optimal health, we need to feed our spirits as well. A daily dose of reading from the scriptures and time spent in prayer, coupled with being proactive with your diet and rest, will reinforce a foundation of good health and faith.

“Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” James 5:16

It will be spring before you know it! 😊

You Are What You Eat

1 Corinthians 10:31 – Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.

By Kat L. Robertson

It’s fair to say that in today’s world most of us understand the importance of developing a healthy lifestyle to protect against sickness and disease, especially cancer.  But what does that look like? How do you proactively adapt a healthy lifestyle that will help you avoid getting sick?

I’d like to emphasize the importance of focusing on what we put into our bodies, so that we are eating for the sake of good nutrition. We begin by abstaining from all fast food (like Mikey D’s and Burger King) and food that has been processed, along with that which is microwavable for convenience.

You may not have a Farmer’s Market nearby and must rely on your local supermarket, but the value of selecting fresh fruits and vegetables should not be underestimated.

Although there are several more, these are a few of my favorite nutrient-dense green foods.

#1 – Kiwifruit

Kiwi has more vitamin C than an orange and the succulent, green meat of the fruit is overflowing with disease-fighting vitamins, minerals and enzymes that help prevent aging, improve skin health, boosts respiratory function, protects vision and improves cardiovascular health, among many other functions. Studies show that the kiwi helps to keep the stomach and intestinal tract in top shape. The skin and the seeds of an organic kiwi have high levels of digestive-friendly fiber, protein and other healthy-protecting compounds. So, you can triple your fiber intake when you eat an organic kiwi skin and all!

#2 – Kale

Kale, (one of my all-time favorites) is a powerhouse of vitamins A, C and K. It is a naturally powerful cancer-fighting food that studies have shown can help improve detoxification, support heart health and inhibit the formation and spread of malignant cancer cells. The anti-inflammatory feature of kale is that it helps to protect the body against harmful bacteria and viruses.

#3 – Spinach

Packed with B vitamins, vitamins A, C, E, and K, trace minerals like copper and magnesium, Spinach is a powerful antioxidant food. It also helps to keep cholesterol from oxidizing in your blood vessels while helping to improve circulation and promoting a healthy heart.

#4 – Watercress

This culinary delight tastes great in soups, salads and sandwiches. It’s technically a healing herb that contains at least 15 essential vitamins and minerals and many other compounds at quantities much higher than that of a typical vegetable. Watercress contains more calcium than milk, more iron than spinach and more vitamin C than an orange. This amazing vegetable also contains phytonutrients, antioxidants and other “super” nutrients that help protect the body against chronic disease and cancer.

Foods rich in vitamin K help protect the brain against neurodegeneration as well as strengthen bones and prevent heart disease. Studies suggest that watercress is a powerful anti-aging food that can help people live longer with improved quality of life. If this has not been on your shopping list, it should be!

#5 – Parsley

Although used as a popular garnish for many dishes, parsley is a powerful chelating herb, which means that it can draw out toxic heavy metals and expel them from the body. Parsley is an incredible anti-cancer food, rich in flavonoids like myricetin and apigenin that research shows helps deter cancer cells and tumors. In addition, parsley is also shown to help strengthen the cellular matrices of bones as well as balance blood sugar levels to prevent diabetes.

#6 – Broccoli

Another fiber-rich cruciferous vegetable (containing phytochemicals, vitamins and minerals, and fiber that are important to your health) is broccoli, an incredible anti-cancer superfood. It contains high levels of sulforaphane, a chemoprotective substance that has been the focus of extensive cancer research. A famous study out of John Hopkins University found that broccoli and broccoli sprouts contain such high levels of sulforaphane that eating it regularly can significantly help reduce your risk of cancer.

#7 Collard Greens

Collard Greens are another cruciferous vegetable full of protein, fiber and omega-3 fatty acids that help lubricate joints and improve brain function. Collards also contain sulfur-containing compounds known as glucosinolates that not only help detoxify but also protect the body against pathogenic invaders. Indole-3-carbino is another healing compound in collards that help fortify the immune system and the body’s defense against cancer.

#8 – Kelp

Seaweed is a rich source of vitamins and trace minerals, antioxidants, phytonutrients, amino acids, omega-3s, fiber and iodine, (which is abundant in plants from the sea). Iodine is essential for brain development and proper functionality of the pituitary gland and the thyroid gland which regulates hormone production and good for your nervous system as well. Iodine plays a critical role in cancer prevention with scientific evidence that suggests that iodine deficiency is directly correlated with increased cancer progression, especially cancers of the breast.

#9 – Celery

Rich in fiber content, celery consists of electrolyte compounds that help keep the body hydrated and enzymes that help keep it clean and nourished. Celery is rich in antioxidants, phytonutrients and other compounds that help protect vital organs, vision, virility, clearing arteries, reducing inflammation and protecting the body against cancer.

#10 – Aloe Vera

Although known for its amazing healing properties when applied to the skin topically, aloe also has anti-inflammatory and laxative properties. It is a powerful remedy for upset stomachs, constipation and various gastrointestinal disorders. Aloe contains significant quantities of enzymes that help improve food digestion, boost immunity and create homeostatic balance throughout the body.

Look for interesting recipes, eat them in salads or lightly steam your veggies. The synergistic benefit of adding these greens to your diet can only enhance a healthy lifestyle. Whether you are juicing or eating raw, it is important to get a daily dose of healthy greens.

For your optimal health!

Living with Brokeness

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.     Psalm 51:17

I am still recuperating after a serious bout with heart failure.

While admitted to the hospital this past weekend, Hurricane Harvey had landed and had begun to take a toiled on Texas. The news was constantly keeping viewers abreast of the devastation that this storm was causing and of the lives that would forever be changed.

While lying in my hospital bed, there was quite a deal of commotion taking place inside my room with an uncooperative older patient making constant demands of the medical team who was treating her.

Trying my best not to focus on the pain and discomfit I was enduring, and the complaining roommate, I turned on the television to keep myself occupied with other matters in life besides my own personal health issues. It was also a great time to pray for others.

The entire time in the hospital my thoughts and conversation was with God.  Now, I was not questioning God at all. It was just my reflecting on the many promises He has kept concerning my life and the scriptures that are embedded in my heart.

By the third day in the hospital the news of the flooding in Texas was reaching its peak. Lives were now being saved through the efforts of brave neighbors, strangers and first responders. A call for volunteers and aid were asked of those able to donate.

As the hours passed by slowly, that still quiet voice was making me more aware of how all of us, no matter where we live, are vulnerable to God’s created nature.

While the storm was leaving broken lives, so was the demanding tongue and heart of my roommate. She was in grave pain and had caused a few of the hospital staff to ignore her constant ringing for assistance.

My roomate actually was living in brokeness.

I knew that this woman had a bitterness of the heart but only God can redeem and heal her sickness.

By the beginning of this week, my complaining roommate was transferred to another floor for special care and I was now ready to be discharge to go home.

Now that I am home, I am grateful that God spare me yet again.

After the hurricane in August and another hospital stay, I can attest that the best gift of life mankind can give to one another is for us to give love and show compassion.

Selfishness will never soothe a bitter spirit. Or heal a broken heart.

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Psalm 51:10

The Immune System

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 – What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost [which is] in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?   (Read More…)

Our monthly health blogger Kat Robertson is just what we need in these times of fast foods and unhealthy lifestyles. As always, Kat brings us a wealth of information about taking care of our total being! Enjoy the post.

It is common knowledge that having a healthy immune system is necessary in order to ward off sickness and disease. Mothers are encouraged to breastfeed their infants so that their baby’s health is fortified outside of the womb. There is a plethora of information on the subject, but I want to focus on what has been determined to be at the heart of a strong immune system.

Plasma cells or white blood cells pump out large volumes of antibodies and these plasma cells are released into the bloodstream and lymph. They seek out antigens (foreign invaders) and destroy them. The bulk of your immune system however is not in your lymph nodes, 70% of your entire immune system resides in your digestive system. So we need to begin here if we want our bodies to function optimally the way they were created. Researchers have determined that significant portions of our immune cells reside in our gastrointestinal system.

In order to support a healthy immune system you need to not only take Vitamins C and D, eliminate junk food from your diet and get sufficient sleep but you need to also feed your digestive system probiotic. Probiotics are live bacterial microorganisms that can be ingested to support digestion and fortify the balance of good vs. bad intestinal bacteria. This is especially important after taking antibiotics.

You can be sure of getting healthy probiotics in your diet a couple of ways. One is to eat naturally fermented foods such as Greek yogurt, sauerkraut, kombucha and Korean kimchi. Research shows that bacteria found in fermented foods can support the immune system throughout the body. Naturally fermented foods are the optimal choice but it may be difficult to eat them everyday and in the right quantities. Taking a probiotic supplement is another option to ensure that you are adding probiotics to your diet..

There are many on the market; however, I would advise against probiotic supplements that are derived from dairy products. These require refrigeration. You have no way of knowing how, or if they were refrigerated during the production process, or if they sat in the sun prior to loading onto refrigerated trucks for distribution.

Your best bet is to take probiotics that do not require refrigeration; that are made from fermented kiwis, purple grapes, sprouted purple maze and reishi mushrooms. Each of these ingredients individually provide strong immune support yet when combined, the synergistic effect is quite potent. There is a supplement on the market that includes all of these ingredients called ProBiotixx.

With the internet you have limitless research potential so do your due diligence. Find the supplements to support your dietary choices that are effective. Make the necessary changes in your diet to support healthy digestion and you are making the right choice in building a strong immune system.

Immune System, Part 1: Crash Course A&P

Don’t Let Your No Be Yes

Better is a poor man who walks in his integrity Than he who is perverse in speech and is a fool. Proverbs 19:1

You ever wonder why people choose to deny themselves the right to say no?

Case in point, someone ask you to do something for them and in your heart, you know that this request isn’t something you want to do. Your heart is right but your lips don’t say no.

Yesterday, I had an important meeting with someone offering me a business opportunity. The monetary was small but the opportunities in accepting this offer would allow me to have an inside track to bigger and possible lucrative revenue.

Mind you, I am in no position to turn down increasing my income but it hit me suddenly that my heart was not in it, nor was the opportunity meant for me.

The offer was extended and I informed the person that I would think it over and get back with him with my answer.

As I drove through hard downpours of rain, my mind was already made up. I would not accept the offer. It isn’t because it was little money but rather, it would have gotten little of me. The offer was for me to give them 100% commitment to do something I walked away from years ago. And the reason being is that this type of assignment burnt me out.

When I arrived home, I found solace in knowing that this time in my life, I don’t have to just turnover and do things I do not choose nor desire to do.

Life whether you are young or old, makes you realize that you don’t have to always be agreeable in order to get along.

Here it is in this small sentence below.

Don’t let your No be yes!

It can save you a great deal of hardship both mentally and physically.

Oxygen, How Important Is It?

We are pleased to have once again, author, poet, artist, teacher and healthy living entrepreneur and our friend, Kat L. Robertson as a contributing writer.  Kat’s post this month is quiet an eye-opener, Oxygen, How Important Is it?

I thought it appropriate to begin this health series on a platform in which all health is sustained. We take breathing for granted because we do so unconsciously and generally only become aware of a problem when we are unable to breathe.

Oxygen is believed to be the most common hospital treatment throughout the developed world. According to the World Health Organization’s List of Essential Medicines it is considered to be the safest, most effective medicine in the health system. Without oxygen, cells can only function for limited periods of time; however, long-term depletion leads to the death of the cell and eventually death of the organism.

In an article written by Neil C. Bhavsar and published in Futurism, he affirms that research is showing 40% of cancers are preventable. Cancers of the kidney, esophagus, colon, mouth, liver and breast can be avoided. The maintenance of normal body weight; eating a healthy diet of fresh fruits and vegetable, minimal to moderate alcohol consumption and abstinence from tobacco products, all help in reducing the risk of cancer.

So why is oxygen important? In 1931 Dr. Otto Henrich Warburg won his first Nobel Prize for proving that cancer is caused by a lack of oxygen respiration in cells. “All normal cells have an absolute requirement for oxygen, but cancer cells can live without oxygen – a rule without exception. Deprive a cell of 35% of its oxygen for 48 hours and it may become cancerous.” says Warburg. He discovered that cancer cells are anaerobic (meaning they do not breathe oxygen) and cannot survive in the presence of high levels of oxygen.

Enter Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide, otherwise known as H2O2 which contains one more molecule of oxygen than water.

As far back as 1920, H2O2 was successfully used to treat pneumonia in the epidemic following World War I. Between 1920 to 1940 there was wide-spread use of Hydrogen Peroxide for treatment of health disorders such as: Allergies Headaches,Altitude Sickness, Herpes Simplex, Alzheimer’s ,Herpes Zoster, Anemia, HIV Infection, Arrhythmia Influenza, Asthma, Insect Bites,Bacterial Infections, Liver Cirrhosis, Bronchitis, Lupus, Erythematosis, Multiple Sclerosis, Candida, Parasitic Infections, Cardiovascular Disease, Parkinsonism, Cerebral Vascular Disease, Periodontal Disease, Chronic Pain, Prostatitis, Diabetes Type 11, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Diabetic Gangrene, Shingles, Diabetic Retinopahty, Sinusitis, Digestion Problems, Sore Throat, Epstein-Barr Infection, Ulcers, Emphysema, Viral Infections, Food Allergies, Warts, Fungal Infections, Yeast Infections,Gingivitis. All though there are much stronger, non evasive and effective alternatives to chemotherapy, (which actually kills everything but cancer cells), Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide can be used to treat the early stages of cancer.

Today H202 is heralded as a very effective health maintenance protocol.

The understanding of Epigenetics is a serendipitous component to the health equation. According to the Collins English Dictionary, Epigenetics “is the study of heritable changes that occur without a change in the DNA sequence.” It involves the addition of small chemical tags known as methyl groups to the DNA double helix. So in other words, environmental influences can change your DNA and be inherited by your offspring and future generations.

This is important when you consider the rise in cancers and diabetes for example. The predisposition of one member of a family to get cancer because their mother had cancer does not assure that a sibling with the same birth parents will also get cancer. Diet and lifestyle choices play a very important role in changing methyl groups and creating new ones based upon these healthy lifestyle choices.

All pretty fascinating stuff. Gone are the days when we look to our doctors to offer the sum total of knowledge about our health. The truth is, no one knows better how your body is doing, than you. Taking full responsibility for your health and making choices that are in your best interest will truly enable you to life your best life.

To your health!

“Christ himself carried our sins in his body to the cross, so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness. It is by his wounds that you have been healed.’ 1Peter 2:24

Aging in Good Health

A gray head is a crown of glory; It is found in the way of righteousness   Proverbs 16:31

Just imagine over hearing a conversation of this nature.

“My feet are aching. My back hurts. And my hips are stiff.“

“You know what your problem is…don’t you?”

“Yeah…I’m getting older!”

“Oh stop it! Age is just a number. Your problem is that you are too lazy to take care of yourself. Look at me. I walk five miles each day. Exercise every morning. Eat the right kind of foods. Fruits, vegetables, lean meats, fish and drink water with every meal. And you don’t see me complaining.”

“That’s because you are…”

“I’m what?”

“You’re ninety-years old and have lived life longer than I have. And I’m only sixty.”

“So what does that have to do with anything?”

‘You live by wisdom and I’m just not where you are right now…but one day, I will get to where you are.”

“Well grandchild…don’t wait too long…you might not make it to be my age.”

The conversation above may for some seem unrealistic. But having celebrated my step into retirement, I am finding more mature adults over the age of sixty doing the unheard of.

For what I can verify, people in their seventies, eighties and nineties are putting those of us in the Baby Boomer generation to shame.

Perfect example of what I speak about is that this past weekend our church had a 5K Walk. It was our first time as a church taking the healthy route to raise funds for our education ministry (this is one way we help support those graduating and going to college and are in college).

The 5k Walk had teams with themes. This was all good. But one of the teams that happened to be part of this wonderful event is The Seasoned Saints. This is a ministry of men and women aged 62 and older.

Well, one can attest there are two beyond seventy, eighty and ninety that put their feet to the track and walked the park course without losing a beat.

These two Godly women are close to my heart and continue to show me and others that age is just a number.

At ninety-two and ninety-eight years of age these women put us on notice that aging in grace and faith in God can move mountains, feet and bodies.

The interesting thing that occurred after the walk was just sitting on the sideline watching these two vibrant and lively women jump up and join the young people doing a line dance. Their enjoyment of life brought me to complete shame. How could I be looking at them and not joining in too? The shame of it all.

But with all this said and done, the truth of the whole matter is this.

It’s never too late to learn…aging in good health pays in dividends!

And it’s never too late to make the necessary changes in our lives spiritually, mentally and physically.

Job 12:12    Is not wisdom found among the aged?  Does not long life bring understanding?

Reaching Your Breaking Point

Matthew 11:28-30

28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

“Stop it! Stop it! If you two don’t stop screaming and yelling in my ears, I’m going to snatch you both out of this place and make you walk home!”

Turning around from the ice cream counter, there stood this middle-aged woman, dress down in her yoga outfit. She was near tears. At her breaking point I assumed. Yet, I could feel this mother’s disgust and disappointment.

As a mother and grandmother, I have had many of breaking points. The kind that made me give serious thought about picking up my car key and pocketbook and just walk. That’s right. Walk out the door and not look back.

But thank God that those breaking points only lasted for a short period of time. No, I never left my family but I on many occasions wanted too.

Reaching your breaking point can involve all facets of one’s life. Marriage, children, family, friends, work and church.

Was the mother out of line in the ice cream shop? I don’t think so. Everyone has a breaking point. It could come anytime and when one least suspects it.

If you have peaked to the point of no return and want to throw in the towel. You are not alone and you are not a bad person. It just proves you are not Jesus.

If you are reading this post right now and know without a doubt that you are at your breaking point, may I suggest to you, to find a quiet place to be alone with the Lord.

Then, do what you might fear will make you look unhinge…scream to the top of your lungs, punch or kick the wall and cry your head off! Better yet, drop everything and go stay overnight at a hotel. Pamper yourself. Then, when you return, don’t answer to anyone.

Your breaking point shouldn’t be taken for granted. You have a right to protect your mental health.

The Choice of Health

As promised. I am quiet happy to introduce to you someone I have known for years as a friend and fellow thespian. Kat Robertson.

Kat is a gifted artist and author. But for years, Kat has made healthy living one of her missions to educate others not only about preventative measures to maintain good health but also being involve in keeping the environment safe for the future. Kat loves the Lord and  I look forward to many other contributions from Kat to the Counterfeit Christian blog,

I Corinthians 6:19-20

19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;
20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

The Choice of Health
by Kat Robertson

The most valuable thing we each have is our heath. Those who suffer from poor health truly understand the blessing of excellent health in the light of life that has to be fought for. We must decide to make consciously healthy life choices because life is a gift that we cannot afford to take for granite. Poor health resulting from dire life choices only exacerbates the devastating conclusion that no amount of money can replace health once it is lost.

If you didn’t know that there is a conspiracy to take away your health one choice at a time, then it’s time to accept the fact. We represent dollar signs in the eyes of multiple corporations that can and will sell us anything. They encourage addictions to their products and like insects in a spider’s web, we get caught in the lie that we want/need/must have “something”.  Fast food, Bluetooth, wireless technology throughout our homes, etc. are all things we are taught that we cannot live without; serving the purpose of making our lives easier and more convenient. Yet very little is mentioned of the downside, the harmful effects that such addictive conveniences can have on our heath.

The phrase “profits before people” is not only a train of thought reflecting how little life is valued in our society, but it also suggests a larger purpose, that of decreasing the human population on earth.  Only the extremely wealthy could possibly benefit from this. In this scenario we become pawns blindly following the recommendations of our medical professionals and their diagnosis that lead to a dependency on prescription drugs and ultimately evasive medical treatments in an effort to “help” us regain our health.  As we suffer a decrease in our health; these corporations continue to increase their bottom line. Since prescription drugs often carry side effects that are worse than the purpose for taking the drug, one does begin to wonder just how much of this theory is a conspiracy and how much is based upon truth.  Far too many people are actually experiencing a decrease in the quality and longevity of their lives.

I am not suggesting that medicine is evil or doctors are only interested in experimenting and making money from you. To the contrary, I have been blessed with the opportunity to work with doctors who were very diligent in their care with me. Obviously there are times when medical attention is crucial. However, the purpose of this series is to encourage you to take responsibility for your own health. You should know more about your health than any medical professional because you live with you. You are aware of the intricacies of your day-to-day routines and the effect they have on your well-being. It’s time to make a decision not to poison your body with anything in excess and minimize your exposure to harmful chemicals and technology. Choose not to have to fight your way back from a devastating cancer diagnosis and instead elect to go for health conscious alternatives.

I will share my stories along with those of others who have learned through experience how to maintain their own optimal health. There is a wealth of information available to us and the internet puts it at our fingertips. Our bodies are to be the temple in which the indwelling Spirit of God can live. It is up to us to be the caretakers we were created to be.

Abundant Health!

How Well Are You?

When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.   John 11;4

young-female-doctor-800pxWeekly visits to my doctor’s office are becoming a ritual of late. And my health insurance premium will be increasing once again as we enter into the year 2017.

I can’t say that I don’t appreciate having health insurance, because I do. However, of late, I have been doing my due diligent to find natural and practical ways to combat allowing my body to deteriorate due to being over medicated with duplication of prescription drugs that are for the exact same treatment.

In 2017, I expect to see a turnaround in the way I treat my body. Especially after a discussion I had with a good friend.

“Child, I just got a call from my doctor,” my friend told me. “He says I’m pre-diabetes and that I should come in to see him for some more test.”

“Well, how do you feel about that?” I asked her.

“I don’t know girl. Most of my family is diabetic and a cousin recently lost his toes because of diabetes. I thought I was alright. I never felt sick or anything…”

My friend paused and looked over at me.

“Do you have diabetes?”

“No,” I told her. “Why are you asking me that, anyway?”

“Well, if I was going to have diabetes…I thought maybe we could go to the doctor together and get treated…you know. Make it a monthly girl get together.”

I couldn’t believe my ears. Who in their right mind would rationalize being treated for diabetes as a monthly outing? I always suspected my good friend to be a little thrown (loopy) but that day, she confirmed it!

But with that conservation push to the side.

I want to pose this question to you. How well are you?

And how well are you when it comes to your overall health?

Are you in the best physical, mental and emotional health you would like to be in?

As we see a growing and older population throughout the world, one should never assume because one is getting older, sickness and health issues are part of the equation. Because it is not!

To prove my point, I know of several, vibrant and healthy older members of our church that are still up and going, passed the age of ninety and still going strong.

So, I ask the question to you again.

How well are you?  And how well is your spiritual health?

And if you need to see a physician, do so. But always remember, the power of healing is always in the hands of God.
