Reaching Your Breaking Point

Matthew 11:28-30

28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

“Stop it! Stop it! If you two don’t stop screaming and yelling in my ears, I’m going to snatch you both out of this place and make you walk home!”

Turning around from the ice cream counter, there stood this middle-aged woman, dress down in her yoga outfit. She was near tears. At her breaking point I assumed. Yet, I could feel this mother’s disgust and disappointment.

As a mother and grandmother, I have had many of breaking points. The kind that made me give serious thought about picking up my car key and pocketbook and just walk. That’s right. Walk out the door and not look back.

But thank God that those breaking points only lasted for a short period of time. No, I never left my family but I on many occasions wanted too.

Reaching your breaking point can involve all facets of one’s life. Marriage, children, family, friends, work and church.

Was the mother out of line in the ice cream shop? I don’t think so. Everyone has a breaking point. It could come anytime and when one least suspects it.

If you have peaked to the point of no return and want to throw in the towel. You are not alone and you are not a bad person. It just proves you are not Jesus.

If you are reading this post right now and know without a doubt that you are at your breaking point, may I suggest to you, to find a quiet place to be alone with the Lord.

Then, do what you might fear will make you look unhinge…scream to the top of your lungs, punch or kick the wall and cry your head off! Better yet, drop everything and go stay overnight at a hotel. Pamper yourself. Then, when you return, don’t answer to anyone.

Your breaking point shouldn’t be taken for granted. You have a right to protect your mental health.

The Choice of Health

As promised. I am quiet happy to introduce to you someone I have known for years as a friend and fellow thespian. Kat Robertson.

Kat is a gifted artist and author. But for years, Kat has made healthy living one of her missions to educate others not only about preventative measures to maintain good health but also being involve in keeping the environment safe for the future. Kat loves the Lord and  I look forward to many other contributions from Kat to the Counterfeit Christian blog,

I Corinthians 6:19-20

19 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;
20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

The Choice of Health
by Kat Robertson

The most valuable thing we each have is our heath. Those who suffer from poor health truly understand the blessing of excellent health in the light of life that has to be fought for. We must decide to make consciously healthy life choices because life is a gift that we cannot afford to take for granite. Poor health resulting from dire life choices only exacerbates the devastating conclusion that no amount of money can replace health once it is lost.

If you didn’t know that there is a conspiracy to take away your health one choice at a time, then it’s time to accept the fact. We represent dollar signs in the eyes of multiple corporations that can and will sell us anything. They encourage addictions to their products and like insects in a spider’s web, we get caught in the lie that we want/need/must have “something”.  Fast food, Bluetooth, wireless technology throughout our homes, etc. are all things we are taught that we cannot live without; serving the purpose of making our lives easier and more convenient. Yet very little is mentioned of the downside, the harmful effects that such addictive conveniences can have on our heath.

The phrase “profits before people” is not only a train of thought reflecting how little life is valued in our society, but it also suggests a larger purpose, that of decreasing the human population on earth.  Only the extremely wealthy could possibly benefit from this. In this scenario we become pawns blindly following the recommendations of our medical professionals and their diagnosis that lead to a dependency on prescription drugs and ultimately evasive medical treatments in an effort to “help” us regain our health.  As we suffer a decrease in our health; these corporations continue to increase their bottom line. Since prescription drugs often carry side effects that are worse than the purpose for taking the drug, one does begin to wonder just how much of this theory is a conspiracy and how much is based upon truth.  Far too many people are actually experiencing a decrease in the quality and longevity of their lives.

I am not suggesting that medicine is evil or doctors are only interested in experimenting and making money from you. To the contrary, I have been blessed with the opportunity to work with doctors who were very diligent in their care with me. Obviously there are times when medical attention is crucial. However, the purpose of this series is to encourage you to take responsibility for your own health. You should know more about your health than any medical professional because you live with you. You are aware of the intricacies of your day-to-day routines and the effect they have on your well-being. It’s time to make a decision not to poison your body with anything in excess and minimize your exposure to harmful chemicals and technology. Choose not to have to fight your way back from a devastating cancer diagnosis and instead elect to go for health conscious alternatives.

I will share my stories along with those of others who have learned through experience how to maintain their own optimal health. There is a wealth of information available to us and the internet puts it at our fingertips. Our bodies are to be the temple in which the indwelling Spirit of God can live. It is up to us to be the caretakers we were created to be.

How Well Are You?

When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.   John 11;4

young-female-doctor-800pxWeekly visits to my doctor’s office are becoming a ritual of late. And my health insurance premium will be increasing once again as we enter into the year 2017.

I can’t say that I don’t appreciate having health insurance, because I do. However, of late, I have been doing my due diligent to find natural and practical ways to combat allowing my body to deteriorate due to being over medicated with duplication of prescription drugs that are for the exact same treatment.

In 2017, I expect to see a turnaround in the way I treat my body. Especially after a discussion I had with a good friend.

“Child, I just got a call from my doctor,” my friend told me. “He says I’m pre-diabetes and that I should come in to see him for some more test.”

“Well, how do you feel about that?” I asked her.

“I don’t know girl. Most of my family is diabetic and a cousin recently lost his toes because of diabetes. I thought I was alright. I never felt sick or anything…”

My friend paused and looked over at me.

“Do you have diabetes?”

“No,” I told her. “Why are you asking me that, anyway?”

“Well, if I was going to have diabetes…I thought maybe we could go to the doctor together and get treated…you know. Make it a monthly girl get together.”

I couldn’t believe my ears. Who in their right mind would rationalize being treated for diabetes as a monthly outing? I always suspected my good friend to be a little thrown (loopy) but that day, she confirmed it!

But with that conservation push to the side.

I want to pose this question to you. How well are you?

And how well are you when it comes to your overall health?

Are you in the best physical, mental and emotional health you would like to be in?

As we see a growing and older population throughout the world, one should never assume because one is getting older, sickness and health issues are part of the equation. Because it is not!

To prove my point, I know of several, vibrant and healthy older members of our church that are still up and going, passed the age of ninety and still going strong.

So, I ask the question to you again.

How well are you?  And how well is your spiritual health?

And if you need to see a physician, do so. But always remember, the power of healing is always in the hands of God.

The Gift of Perfect Health

And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. Revelation 21:4

Farm to YouOh, wouldn’t it be wonderful if we all had perfect health?

No more cancer, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, autism, mental illness, viruses and the list of so many more attacks on the body, and yes, even the common cold.

The gift of perfect health isn’t something that we can all have. No matter whom you are.

Everyone on this planet, humans and animals alike, will not escape having some type of illness that will cause us to stop and think that we could have been free of sickness and death, had not Adam and Eve obeyed God’s instructions when they lived in the Garden of Eden.

I know, I know. Some reading this post think that the Garden of Eden story, Adam and Eve, and yes, God is just an overblown fictional piece of crap that should have long ago been discarded from the hearing and reading of mankind.

But, the story is factual and I will just leave it at that.

So, here we are once again in the midst of the over-eating, over indulging, and over spending of the November to January holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s).

But think on this.

Imagine waking up one day having no more aches, pains and sickness.

What would you do if you found yourself, once going on a regular basis to see your doctor, no longer in need of the visits, or, prescription drugs?

Or how about the thought of once being bed ridden and housebound and it is now over with? You can now go about your days without needing a private nurse or caregiver.

The gift of good health is possible but reality is that good health is not the perfect health that God wants us to have.

Good health is fine…but I prefer perfect health and that will come soon…but until then, let us be mindful that we still have the opportunity to treat our body and mind with love and care.

Teenagers and Mental Illness

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God. Romans 12:2

Yesterday, my plans were turned upside down when I received a text from one of my daughters concerning one of my grandchildren.

When she had the opportunity to call me about the situation, it threw me for a loop.

My youngest grandson had attempted suicide.        man-person-school-head

Believe me when I say this, this is not the kind of call any parent or grandparent, or anyone, would like to receive, much less confront.

Let me put it out here plainly, A number of years ago, I would never have revealed a family matter of this nature to anyone.  But things have changed in my life. And it is because of the power of Christ within me that this post is being written today.

As quiet as it’s kept, mental illness for years has been a taboo subject and conversation within many families, especially, in the black community.

If this post can help someone. I am indeed thankful to the Lord for using me.

Teenagers and mental illness has been around since the start of mankind.

Nevertheless, let’s get to the heart of the matter by first throwing out the way words of shame and embarrassment will stop people cold in their tracks in sharing their concerns about getting help for mental illness, either for themselves or a loved one.

Imagine the anguish of experiencing hearing voices in one’s head or even to the extreme of thinking about self-inflicting wounds or committing suicide. Yes, these are signals that immediate attention is needed to get professional help.

Young people today are more prone to face mental illness due to this society that offers them everything without little consequences. Drugs, alcohol and social media (cyberbullying) are a powerful concoction that can fuel a young person with mental illness.

So you may ask. How does one recognize they are dealing with mental illness with a young person in their family or even outside the family?

Well, yesterday, I came across one interesting article on the website of the American Psychiatric Association.  This report title is Warning Signs of Mental Illness.

[ One half of all mental illness begins by age 14 and 75% begins by age 24.]

There is a tremendous responsibility we have not only as parents, grandparents, and guardians. But as adults who must be ever the more diligent in listening to what our young people are saying or acting out.

One thing that the Lord has shown me is that self-indulgence to push our young ones to fulfill their flesh rather than feed their spiritual soul will lead to a path of destruction.

Today God has given my family yet a clearer understanding of who He is.

My grandson is now getting the treatment he needs as well as knowing that God spared his life and not man. This was the favor of God on my grandchild life.

For those who don’t believe in God or His existence, we will continue to pray that one day your eyes and heart will be open to the truth.

In the meanwhile, the Word of God says, “pray without ceasing.” And not only pray but be proactive in the lives of others. Always have faith to believe in the impossible, and trust God in all circumstances, rather good or bad.

Please keep my family in your prayers and especially, our young ones who need to know not only is there a God in heaven. But He is also working miraculously here on earth.

Mental illness is nothing to frown on. Seek professional help and keep God in the process of healing.

Miracles or Medicine

But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour. Matthew 9:22

Good Health Wednesday

After a number of years being treated for various medical conditions, I realized that maybe I did myself a disservice visiting doctors.

Doctors do have a role in society. Just like Luke (Book of Luke) served the disciples and helped spread the gospel about Jesus. Physicians serve to serve men. But physicians are not healers.

Having several family members now making regular visits to the doctors and specialists, it seems to me that each time they return home, they are given a new diagnosis. This is pretty much A-typical it seems in the African-American community.

It is almost like the medical establishment believe that we are expendable or at best, ideal candidates for clinical trials.

The more I begin to do research about various family members medical diagnosis, I am becoming more disheartened that the medical professionals don’t seem to have the patient well-being at hand. However, there are quite a number of doctors eager in  making sure that they are part of the financial windfall of health insurance and Pharmaceutical companies.

I will be the first to tell anyone. Good health must first start with oneself.

You cannot and should you never rely on someone else to take care of your well-being.

When I was in my early twenties, you could never have convinced me that the lifestyle I was living would cause me sickness or an early death.

When you are young, you believe you are invincible and that anyone who was sickly was usually old or born with poor health.

Fast forward. And reality kicks in that when I had the opportunity on numerous occasions to practice good health habits.  I didn’t. I can say that I had talked myself out of taking care of myself first.

Learning every day of the errors of my ways, I had to make a decision on what the rest of my life journey will look like.

Will it be miracles or medicine?

I’m choosing miracles!

Starting All Over

2 Corinthians 5:17 – Therefore if any man [be] in Christ, [he is] a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Well, this is a post that has taken several hours to write.

Right now, I am in bed recuperating once again with issues dealing with my heart.

I spent a few days in the hospital and came home with two new prescriptions on top of the others that I am presently taking.

Just having to rest is testing my patience. My mood peaks and takes nose dives. Right now, I feel a sense of emptiness. It is a feeling that I want to let go. Is this depression? Or a feeling of disgust that once again, I have to begin to think of putting my health as a priority over the incidental things in my life.

Being what I consider an active baby boomer, I am always looking forward to what new challenges lies ahead of me. Of course, those challenges are part of God’s plans for my life.

Yet, I would be lying to you if I said that at this particular stage of my life that I am content. No matter how much I read the Bible, and study particular scriptures relating to my situation. The flesh begs to ask the question, why again Lord?

I know that I am blessed to have a loving family, friends and church community praying for me daily and there as a support system. I thank them all from the bottom of heart (no pun intended).

As God draws breath in me each day, I feel my strength slowly being restored.

Through this health crisis, I have resolve to starting all over.

Starting over means for me to place more faith in God and trust Him despite what is said from others who doubt the power of healing.

Today is Healthy Wednesday and I would do a disservice to you and God if I did not share a better way of living healthy.

Here is my starting over list

  1. God first
  2. Identifying physicians that have the interest of their patient health first above traditional medical treatment
  3. Meals of fresh fruits, vegetables and grains and forgo process foods and sugary beverages
  4. Exercise and walk daily
  5. Daily Bible study, prayer and thanking the Lord

The C Word

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

==Healthy Wednesday==

“Please don’t mention that word to me again…I don’t want to hear it. Keep the C word to yourself.”

I stood to the side and shook my head. It was a conversation that was taking place in the hospital and I just happened to be in earshot of hearing a mother stress to her adult child about a diagnosis that made my heart sink.

“But you have to be realistic about this thing,” the mother told her child.                                                                         leec1

“I am being realistic. And if I tell you that I don’t want to hear it again…that’s what I mean!” declared the woman’s daughter.

Turning around and heading back to the hospital lobby, I sank in the first chair I got too.

Lord knows that I have had my shared of medical emergencies and hospital stays. However, this time around, I had escorted a friend to the emergency room.

My patience was wearing thin. And I could feel my heart racing each time the sirens reached the entry doors and the EMT staff pulled someone out of the van and rolled them through the automatic doors.

As I attempted to preoccupy myself with strolling through my smart phone, my thoughts kept going back to the conversation between the mother and daughter.

The mother voice was trembling and shaky. Yet, her young adult child’s voice sounded strong, confident, and without fear.

Every so often I would look around to see how many patients were being called to the triage. I was playing this head game to keep me occupied from boredom and from dwelling on the C word myself.

It wasn’t long before my friend emerged from the treatment room. Everything was fine except for her having a bad case of indigestion and the need to go home and get some rest.

As we were preparing to leave, the mother I had overheard talking with her daughter came out.

The mother whisked passed me and out the automatic doors to the parking lot. Soon after, her daughter came out and sat in the waiting area. At that moment, I was compelled to go over and just encourage her.

It took all the faith I had to speak to this young woman. But I did.

“I’m sorry about your situation…I will be praying for you.”

The young woman looked up at me and smiled. “Thank you.”

I introduced myself to her and my friend.

The three of us had an awkward moment, seeing we were all strangers.

Then, much to our surprise, the young woman was encouraging me.

“You know, I don’t care what the doctors told me. I have faith to believe that Christ has already healed me.”

Walking to the car, my friend and I were shouting with praise and joy. Especially me!

That C word that she never spoke of turned out to be the C name of promise.

Christ! She was declaring Christ as her Healer and that gave me such peace to know that the C word has no power over Christ.

Toxic Food

“Artificial manures lead inevitably to artificial nutrition, artificial food, artificial animals, and finally, to artificial men and women.” – Sir Albert Howard, Founder of the Organic Farming Movement (1940)

Today I had an enjoyable conversation with one of my sisters. Our talk started off about what was happening with some younger members of our family, politics, Wells Fargo Senate hearing and then before we knew it, we were in a deep discussion about toxic food and the sliding scale of healthcare.

When it comes to healthcare, I am thankful and feel blessed that I do have full health coverage. But on the other-hand, I am disgusted with the power of Big Pharma and doctors who have built medical empires at their patients expense (physically, emotionally and financially).

I don’t have anything against doctors on the whole. However, I determine my opinion on my one-on-one interactions with the specialists and health professionals attending to my particular condition.

Of late, my snail mail has been nothing but large glossy postcards and colored envelopes advertising about new medical practices moving into our town. In addition to the junk mail my current health insurer has turned over my name to third parties contacting me about in-home visits and completing online surveys.

And I recognize now that I allowed myself to get into this unhealthy condition by eating toxic foods that has been working against my overall health.

Eating the right foods today seems like an impossible task, seeing that our vegetables, fruits, meats, poultry, fish and grains are possibly subjected to chemicals that are the cause of major medical conditions, such as diabetes and cancer.

In order to live the life we want, we must give up the things that are slowly killing us.

Here in part is an interesting article about food and medicine from the website FoodKills.org

THE SLOW POISONING OF YOU AND YOUR CHILDREN
How science and medicine have betrayed you

“Basically, you die earlier and spend more time disabled if you’re an American rather than a member of most other advanced countries.”Christopher Murray, M.D., Ph.D., Director of the World Health Organization’s Global Program on Evidence for Health Policy, 2000.

At the beginning of the 20th century, the US ranked 1st in health among the major industrial nations. US spending per capita on health is currently the highest in the world yet the US now ranks 37th in actual health statistics in the top industrial countries and has the highest infant mortality rate. The US also rates 24th in life expectancy… more

It is unfortunate that in our advance society we are getting sicker all due to the demand for having everything microwave ready for quick and easy disposable.

Our food is a major part of our existence and once it becomes our enemy, we will have no one to blame but ourselves. We must with all due effort begin to take action in what we buy and what we eat…it’s not something we can neglect.

29 And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. 30 Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food”; and it was so. Food – The Ultimate Secret Exposed full version

Healthy Wednesday

Along the bank of the river, on this side and that, will grow all kinds of trees used for food; their leaves will not wither, and their fruit will not fail. They will bear fruit every month, because their water flows from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for medicine.” Ezekiel 47:12

Healthy Wednesday.

At times, I am sorry that I ever stepped into a doctor’s office.

Yet, I know that physicians have an important role to play in our lives, as did, the physician Luke did when he traveled with the Apostle Paul during his evangelism journey.

However, with everything in life. We must live a well-balance existence and not forget who is the true Healer who heals.

At this moment, several members of my family and close friends are experiencing health issues. And because I know everyone has their own way of dealing with sickness, I wanted to share my own personal story with someone who may be fighting against the knowledge that the doctor has all the answers to their health problems.

A number of years ago, I decided to get a medical check-up before going out-of-town for a business trip.

I had been given various test with the dreaded blood test being the granddaddy of them all.

Once my doctor received the results, I was asked to come in his office as soon as possible.

“I have good news and bad news for you…which one do you want to hear first?” my former family physician asked me.

As I sat in the chair next to the doctor’s desk, my voice sounded liked an echo chamber.

“The good first,” I told him, somewhat feeling like a heavy boulder was weighing down my heart.

“Well, you don’t have Lime disease.”

I sat motionless.

Now, I was waiting with anticipation for the boulder to get larger as he stared at me.

“But you do have M.S.”

As if in a trance, I nodded my head and took in the information as if it was being spoken for someone else.

That day, I left my doctor’s office and walked home, constantly playing his words over and over in my head.

When I reached home, I remember flopping down on the sofa and looking blankly at the wall. I must have set in the living room for hours before finally getting up and getting myself something to eat.

Yet, here is the caveat to my diagnosis.

Despite everything, that was said to me. I never questioned God.

I didn’t think or even consider that God had somehow caused me to have Multiple Sclerosis.

To be honest, I was ignorant in my thinking that black folks didn’t get M.S.  However, years later I found that to be untrue.

Now, after twenty years of having the Miracle Sign, I am able to speak with newly diagnosed individuals to encourage them to live the life that God wants them to live.

Facing any major diagnosis, such as diabetes, heart disease or cancer can be devastating news but it does not have to rule over us.

The power is in our hands.

We can choose to live.

Or choose to give up.

But it is my hope and prayer that giving up is not an option and that you want the best that God has to give you.

So, today, I am kicking off Healthy Wednesday.

Healthy Wednesday will introduce you to articles, videos and guest posts to show us all a better way in which to live a healthier life.

If anything that is worth life,,, it is living it to the fullness as God intended for us to live.
