Big Pharma Lobbying for Death and not Life

My monthly visits with a former physician were usually pleasant, despite the fact that I was being treated for an incurable medical condition (their belief not mine). This particular visit, the dear doctor was in an extremely good mood.

As I was told by my doctor, she and two friends went to see a superstar performer and had a lavish dinner to top it off. I sat listening with just a simple smile on my face and thinking to myself, “so what, you can afford to do this because of the hefty treatment cost that patients like me are paying for.”

Then without a skip of a beat, the doctor said, “thanks to patients like you, we (doctors) are always getting freebies from pharmaceutical representatives.”

I share this story with you today because it came to mind after watching 60 Minutes last evening. One of their feature stories dealt with the high cost of cancer drugs.

This particular segment fueled my anger in learning that pharmaceutical companies in America have created a monopoly with human life.

Let’s get real. Big Pharma lobbying for death and not life is not something we can close our eyes too. The pharmaceutical businesses have gained too much control in positioning themselves to be God.

The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that the works thereof are evil.
John 7:7

What is unfortunate for Christians living in America is that we might be conspirators with Big Pharma companies if we are investing in these companies or our 401K includes these businesses that are hiking up drugs prices. We then are not investing in the best interest for ourselves or those we love who rely on medication to ease their pain and discomfit.

Our responsibility as a Christian to renounce un-Godly greed is not about being Democrat or Republican neither a Conservative nor Liberal. It is about doing right in God’s sight.

If anything should convict your heart, it is seeing someone you love, needing a medication and being denied the right to enjoy life because of a few who are only interested in financial gain.

As always, when questions arise about the morality of our society, all we need to do is open the Word of God and get lessons about the past, present and future.

Take for instance, the Book of Nehemiah, Chapter 5.

This chapter deals with the plight that the Israelites found themselves in when a few business men manipulated the masses in putting their sons and daughters in future bondage because they had to borrow to pay the King’s tribute. They gave up vineyards and houses. Everything they owned.

The prophet Nehemiah made it very clear the consequences that would befall these men if they did not return everything they had stolen back to the people.

Although they relented and said they would return everything not belonging to them, it would not last because man has yet to learn, that all power is in God’s hands. Life and death.

The Counterfeit Christian

2 A people great and tall, the children of the Anakims, whom thou knowest, and of whom thou hast heard say, Who can stand before the children of Anak! 3 Understand therefore this day, that the LORD thy God is he which goeth over before thee; as a consuming fire he shall destroy them, and he shall bring them down before thy face: so shalt thou drive them out, and destroy them quickly, as the LORD hath said unto thee. 4 Speak not thou in thine heart, after that the LORD thy God hath cast them out from before thee, saying, For my righteousness the LORD hath brought me in to possess this land: but for the wickedness of these nations the LORD doth drive them out from before thee.                                   Deuteronomy 9:2-4
